Rescue Me by Rachel Gibson

9780062113566It all started with a stalled pickup truck and a lift into town.

That’s how Sadie Hollowell came to meet Vince Haven. Sadie was coming home to Lovett, Texas, for her cousin’s wedding. Vince was in town to see his aunt about a business proposal.

Being 33, unmarried and without a boyfriend, Sadie ask Vince to go with her to the wedding. Vince declined at first but later showed up at the wedding to repay Sadie for giving him a lift into town.

From there the sparks begin to fly and the attraction between the two sizzles. Both want no ties so being FWB (friends with benefits) suits them or does it?

Sadie can’t wait to return to Arizona and her ‘real’ life but a family crisis keeps her in Lovett. Vince decides to take his aunt up on her offer and call Lovett home for awhile. The two must decide if being FWB is enough or too much.

Author Rachel Gibson has created a feisty, sexy and strong protagonist in Sadie. She’s tough but vulnerable. She’s been trying hard to please her family all her life but still feels she’s failed. In Vince, Gibson has created a strong and sexy SEAL who won’t let anyone see his weaknesses. His past has made him shy away from real relationships.

RESCUE ME is a delightful, easy-going story filled with steamy romance and laugh-out-loud humor. Gibson’s descriptions of Lovett and the Hollowell Ranch will make you long for the small town atmosphere.

Narrator Kathleen Early brings the story to life beautifully. She does a great job with the dialect making listeners feel they’re deep in the heart of Texas. Her cadence will leave you breathless after a  liaison between Sadie and Vince and heartbroken when memories are recalled.

While the ending leaves a few loose ends, it’s a great place to start a follow-up story. Listeners/readers won’t be disappointed finding out who needs to be rescued and why.

  1. Mason - Thanks for the review! This one sounds like a great light romance, and I'm glad you brought the way authors can use the pace of dialogue and so on to keep the reader interested. That's more apparent in audio books than it is when you read, but even when reading, I think one can still pick it up.

  2. Mason, this is a great review. I don't think I've ever wanted a small town atmosphere though. I'm too used to city convenience. Maybe this would change my mind.
