Books Could Be Coming Your Way

Do you enjoy it when the postman arrives and he’spostman_pat got a new book (or two or more) for you?

I do. It’s almost like being a young kid at Christmas. All excited to see what book has arrived and eager to read it even though there’s a stack of TBR books already waiting on you.

Well today I’d like to add to someone’s TBR stack. Thanks to Anna and the great folks at Little, Brown and Company I have 2 books to giveaway. I have 3 copies of Eowyn Ivey’s enchanting novel, THE SNOW CHILD, and 1 copy of Jodi Kantor’s THE OBAMAS to giveaway.

THE SNOW CHILD by Eowyn Ivey

9780316175678_388X586Alaska, 1920: a brutal place to homestead, and especially tough for recent arrivals Jack and Mabel. Childless, they are drifting apart--he breaking under the weight of the work of the farm; she crumbling from loneliness and despair. In a moment of levity during the season's first snowfall, they build a child out of snow. The next morning the snow child is gone--but they glimpse a young, blonde-haired girl running through the trees.

This little girl, who calls herself Faina, seems to be a child of the woods. She hunts with a red fox at her side, skims lightly across the snow, and somehow survives alone in the Alaskan wilderness. As Jack and Mabel struggle to understand this child who could have stepped from the pages of a fairy tale, they come to love her as their own daughter. But in this beautiful, violent place things are rarely as they appear, and what they eventually learn about Faina will transform all of them.

Author Eowyn LeMay Ivey was raised in Alaska and
continues to live there with her husband and two daughters. She received her BA in journalism and minor in creative writing through the honors program at Western Washington University, studied creative nonfiction at the University of Alaska Anchorage graduate program, and worked for nearly 10 years as an award-winning reporter at the Frontiersman newspaper. This is her first novel.

THE OBAMAS by Jodi Kantor

9780316098755_388X586When Barack Obama won the 2008 presidential election, he also won a long-running debate with his wife Michelle. Contrary to her fears, politics now seemed like a worthwhile, even noble pursuit. Together they planned a White House life that would be as normal and sane as possible.

Then they moved in.

In the Obamas, Jodi Kantor takes us deep inside the White House as they try to grapple with their new roles, change the country, raise children, maintain friendships, and figure out what it means to be the first black President and First Lady. Filled with riveting detail and insight into their partnership, emotions and personalities, and written with a keen eye for the ironies of public life, THE OBAMAS is an intimate portrait that will surprise even readers who thought they knew the President and First Lady.

Author Jodi Kantor began her journalism career by
dropping out of Harvard Law School to join Slate.com in 1998. Four years later she became the Arts & Leisure editor of the New York Times, the youngest person in memory to edit a section of the newspaper. She has been covering the Obamas since 2007, writing about their faith, friends, marriage, roots, and family, among other topics.

Jodi is a recipient of a Columbia Young Alumni Achievement Award, was named to Crain’s “Forty Under Forty” list of New Yorkers, and appears regularly on television. Though she is a Washington correspondent for the Times, she lives in Brooklyn with her family. Learn more at JodiKantor.net, her Facebook page, or on Twitter @JodiKantor.
