THAWED OUT AND FED UP by Ryan Brown

While I love watching westerns, I’ve never been a big reader of western9781439171561_NOT_FINAL_NOT_FINAL books. But when a book is promoted ‘In the view of Firefly and Cowboys & Aliens,’ with John Wayne thrown in the mix, how could I resist?

And I’m glad I didn’t. THAWED OUT AND FED UP by Ryan Brown is a wonderful book that mixes touches of classic westerns with modern problems and a big dose of humor that will have you laughing out loud.

Sam Bonham wakes from a drunken night to find he has blood all over himself and can’t remember what he did. Not knowing if he killed the dead man found in his estranged wife’s yard, Sam decides it’s time to head to Mexico since the law is looking for him. Leaving East Texas he expects to find the Rio Grande but discovers Blistered Valley instead.

Sam also discovers a plane crash near town carrying the cryogenically frozen body of Marion Morrison, better known as John ‘The Duke’ Wayne. In his ‘defrosted’ state, The Duke is showing his age but his character hasn’t changed a bit.

With the help of the legendary John Wayne, Sam may discover there’s more to himself than he ever believed. He and The Duke help a group of townspeople reclaim their town from a gang of want-to-be cowboys.

Author Ryan Brown has created intriguing characters and mixed them with the plot of ‘what if’ John Wayne still lived. This is a fast-pace read that will be hard to put down once you pick it up.

  1. Mason - Thanks for this review. Such an interesting concept - someone waking up covered in blood and not sure exactly what happened. It sounds like there's plenty of suspense as well as some laughs.
