One More Giveaway

Christmas time is usually thought of as “a time of giving” so with that in mind I’m posting another book giveaway courtesy of Anna and the Hachette Book Group.

This book is completely different from the previous post. The book is “A GOOD TALK” by Daniel Menaker.

“A GOOD TA” is an analysis of and guide to that most exclusively human of all activities-- conversation.

Since I haven’t read the book yet, a synopsis of  it was provided by the Hachette Book Group. Here it is:

Drawing on over forty years of experience in American letters, Menaker pinpoints the factors that drive and enliven every good conversation: the vagaries (and joys) of subtext; the deeper structure and meaning of conversational flow; the subliminal signals that guide our disclosures and confessions; and the countless other hurdles we must clear along the way. Moving beyond self-help musings and "how to" advice, he has created a stylish, funny, and surprising book: a celebration of "the most excusively human of all activities."

In a time when conversation remains deeply important-- for building relationships, for relaxing, even for figuring out who we are-- and also increasingly imperiled (with Blackberries and texting increasingly in vogue), A GOOD TALK is a refreshing celebration of the subtle adventures of a good conversation.

Menaker hosts episodes of The Title Page and posts blogs about literary works, authors, and issues on www.TitlePage.tv  Menaker is also a contributor on the BarnesandNobleReview.com

Now the rules of the giveaway contest for the five books I have to giveaway:

The contests are only open to residents of the US and Canada and no P.O. Box addresses will be accepted.

To enter, you have to e-mail me at mcbookshelf@gmail.com. Your subject line should read, “Win GOOD TALK.” Your message has to include your name and mailing address (remember no post office boxes).

This giveaway will run until Monday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m. (EST).  No entries accepted after that time.

The winners will be drawn that night. I will post the winners’ names on the blog and forward the information to the Hachette Book Group, who will mail the books to the winners.

  2. Margot, I love the idea of being able to introduce somebody to a new author or help them get a certain book by an author they like.
I don't want to have a blog that's just about giveaways, but when there were so many good books available, I couldn't resist.
I've had one entry that said they were going to donate the book to their library if they won. I thought that was a wonderful idea with the cutbacks most libraries are facing.

  4. Please do Patricia.
Since these are my first attempts at book giveaways didn't know what to expect. The books have been great.
I'm hoping to get a couple of reviews books from this. But if I don't, at least I have helped others enjoy the books and that's the point of a review after all.

  6. That would be nice, but I'm afraid I'm not up on all the latest ways to add links and such to the blog yet. I still have trouble getting the photos to go where I want them to in a post.
I'll keep working on it to see what I can do. Thanks for the suggestion.
